Hiking Day 4 – Wales Coastal Path Llanon to New Quay

Today’s hike was roughly 13 miles, although a milder terrain day with a destination of New Quay.

We hike through the small town of Aberarth which was a hub for shipbuilding in the 1700-1800’s. Additional stones in the walkway identify each ship built during the period.

The cliffs are lower today with gentle climbs. Although the miles of path covered were longer, the gentler terrain was an opportunity for some relaxed walking.

We found some benches and stopped to eat our bagged lunches in the village of Aberaeron with its colorful rows of houses. I also set a personal record for the smallest amount charged on a credit card, 30 pence for the pay toilets.

We hike on past the nearly inaccessible Cwm Buwch beach where a waterfall plunges from the cliffs.

The final two miles of today’s hike bring us on beaches into New Quay. We remove our hiking boots and take to some pebbly areas down onto the sand and refresh our feet in the cold water of the bay..

The tide is out so we are able to walk close to the cliff, hopscotching through some larger stones and take the beach directly up a ramp to our hotel for the evening, the Penwig.

Tomorrow, we’re ready for more stunning sights and tougher climbing.
